‘Secrets of A Master Painter’ reveals the stories that are hidden under the layers of paint and varnish. Johannes Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a pearl earring’ doesn’t wear a pearl at all, but what is this jewel, then? Why is it that you never see Vincent Van Gogh smile on his self-portraits? Is DNA-research possible on one of Rembrandt’s hairs? What is the connection between Mondrian and Snow White? What was Carel Willink’s muse thinking of, while she was posing? Is Frans Hals’ oldest known painting actually by Frans Hals himself? And was Jheronimus Bosch a genius or influenced by drug abuse?

Marko Kassenaar was a member of the writers team around author Mark Zegeling.
At present, the book is only available in Dutch. In case you are interested, you can take a closer ook and order the book here (website in Dutch)

To celebrate the launch of the book, a special Gold Edition was manufactured. This gold-plated version is officially the most expensive book of The Netherlands.
